2010 Jeep Wrangler
The 2010 Jeep Wrangler has a redesigned soft top which is designed to be easier to open and close. This off-road-ready SUV is offered in 2-door or Unlimited 4-door form. Trim levels include Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon; Sport replaces the previous X trim level. All Wranglers are available with a folding soft top or a removable hardtop. All have a 3.8-liter V6 engine. Two-door Wranglers have 202 hp; Unlimiteds have 205. Manual or automatic transmission is available.
The 2-door models are 4-wheel drive only. Unlimiteds come with rear drive or 4WD. Wrangler’s 4WD system should not be left engaged on dry pavement but includes a low-range gear for off-roading. Maximum towing capacity is 2000 lb on the 2-door, 3500 lb on the Unlimited. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and front side airbags. Optional is Chrysler’s Uconnect multimedia suite, which includes a 30-gigabyte hard drive for storing digital media and picture files, a wireless cell-phone link, and a navigation system with real-time traffic updates. For severe off-road use, Wrangler can be equipped with an electronic-disconnecting front stabilizer bar, locking differentials, and specific tires.
Wrangler has Jeep’s Trailer-Sway Control, which activates the antiskid system if it detects a towed trailer is not following its intended path. Due later in the 2010 model year are a pair of special-edition option packages, each offered on 4WD Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited body styles. The Islander and Mountain packages include their own unique paint colors and other exterior and interior trim.
2010 Jeep Patriot
The 2010 Jeep Patriot sees no major changes. This compact SUV is a companion to Jeep’s Compass, but Patriot has more traditional Jeep styling and enhanced available off-road capability. Sport and Limited trims are available, and both seat 5. A 172-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard. It teams with a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic.
All models are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive without low-range gearing. Available as a credit option on the 2WD Sport is a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that teams with a manual transmission or CVT. Optional is an off-road-oriented AWD system that includes low-range gearing and hill-descent control. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, an antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. Fold-down tailgate speakers, leather upholstery, a fold-flat front-passenger seat back, and heated front seats are among the options.
Also optional is Chrysler’s Uconnect multimedia suite, which includes a wireless cell-phone link, 30-gigabyte hard drive for storing digital music and picture files, and a navigation system with real-time traffic information.
2010 Jeep Liberty
The 2010 Jeep Liberty lineup gains a new trim level. Liberty shares its basic design with the Dodge Nitro. Joining the base Sport and top-line Limited is the mid-level, off-road-oriented Renegade. All use a 210-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Newly standard is Chrysler’s Interactive Decel Fuel Shut Off, which is designed to save fuel by shutting off the gasoline supply during deceleration. Maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
Sport and Limited offer rear-wheel drive or Jeep’s Command-Trac part-time 4-wheel drive that should not be left engaged on dry pavement. Optional on the 4WD Sport and Limited and standard on the Renegade is Jeep’s Selec-Trac II 4WD, which can be left engaged on dry pavement. Both include low-range gearing for off-road use. The Liberty has Sky Slider, a retractable canvas roof that opens over both seating rows. Renegade versions have specific exterior trim, wheels, and tires.

2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee sees no major changes pending a redesign due as a 2011 model. This is the smaller of Jeep’s two midsize SUVs. Laredo and Limited trims are offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive that can be equipped with a low-range gear for off-roading. The top-end Overland trim level has been discontinued.
A high-performance SRT8 model has all-wheel drive without the low-range gear. Standard on Laredo and Limited is a 210-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine. Optional on both is a 357-horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that includes Chrysler’s Multi Displacement System cylinder deactivation. The 305-horsepower 4.7-liter V8 and 215-horsepower 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 have been discontinued. SRT8s have a 420-horsepower 6.1-liter Hemi without cylinder deactivation. Maximum towing capacity ranges from 3500-7400 pounds.
All Grand Cherokees have a 5-speed automatic transmission. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Hill-descent control is available. A navigation system is optional. 2010 Jeep Compass
The 2010 Jeep Compass sees no major changes. This compact SUV shares its basic design with Jeep’s Patriot and the Dodge Caliber. Compass seats 5 and comes with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Compass comes in Sport and Limited trims. Standard on all models is a 172-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. Manual transmission is standard. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic is optional.

2010 Jeep Commander
The 2010 Jeep Commander is largely unchanged. This midsize SUV is basically a stretched version of Jeep’s Grand Cherokee. Commander comes in Sport and Limited trims. The Overland model has been discontinued. Each is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A low-range gear for off-roading is standard on Limited, optional on Sport.
All Commanders seat 7 passengers. Sports have a 210-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine. Standard on Limiteds and optional on Sports is a 357-horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with Chrysler’s Multi Displacement System cylinder deactivation. The 305-horsepower 4.7-liter V8 has been discontinued. All engines team with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Commander is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds with the V6 and 7,400 pounds with the V8.
