2010 Chevrolet Express

The 2010 Chevrolet Express gains E85 ethanol-blended-fuel capability for more of its engines and a new 6-speed automatic transmission. Express and the GMC Savana share the same basic design and come in passenger and cargo models. Half-ton Express 1500s come only in regular length. Three-quarter-ton 2500s and 1-ton 3500s come in regular or extended length. All models have two swing-open rear cargo doors and, on the passenger side, either 60/40 hinged doors or a sliding door.

Optional on all models are 60/40 split rear doors on the driver side. Regular-length passenger vans seat up to 12; extended-length passenger vans up to 15. Front seats are buckets; others are benches that can be removed. Cargo models have front buckets along with metal side and rear panels in place of windows. A 195-horsepower 4.3-liter V6 engine is standard on light-duty cargo models. Four V8s are offered: A 279-horsepower 4.8-liter, a 301-horsepower 5.3-liter, and a 323-horsepower 6.0-liter. The 4.8-liter, 5.3-liter, and 6.0-liter V8s are E85 capable. Optional on 2500 and 3500 cargo models is a turbodiesel 250-horsepower 6.6-liter V8.

Express vans come with either a 4-speed automatic transmission or, for 2010, a 6-speed automatic transmission; a standard tire-pressure monitoring system; and an information console that displays maintenance reminders and vehicle-status information. All versions have rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available on 1500s. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, and curtain-side airbags. Optional equipment includes rear air conditioning, access panels with keyless remote release in place of side windows, a limited-slip differential, CD player, heated power mirrors with turn signals, and, new for 2010, remote engine start.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox

The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is redesigned, receiving freshened styling, new engines, and some new features. This 4-door crossover SUV seats 5 and comes in LS, 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ trim levels. Equinox offers a choice of two engines. A 182-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder is standard. A 264-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 is optional on the 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ.

Both engines team with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are offered on all models. Maximum towing capacity is 1,500 pounds with the 4-cylinder and 3,500 pounds with the V6. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags.

Available features include remote engine start, a navigation system, wireless cell-phone link, DVD entertainment, a hard drive for storing digital-music files, a rearview camera, and a power tailgate. Equinox uses Chevy’s “MultiFlex” rear seat that can be moved 8 inches fore and aft to better accommodate different storage and passenger needs.

2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

The 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt lineup loses its high-performance models. Otherwise, these compact coupes and sedans are largely unchanged for what will likely be their final model year. Cobalt reprises Base, LS, and LT trim levels. The high-performance SS will be phased out over the course of the model year.

Base, LS, and LT have a 155-horsepower 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission is available. Versions equipped with the manual transmission are available with an XFE (Xtra Fuel Economy) Package, which includes low-rolling-resistance tires and other drivetrain tweaks designed to increase fuel economy.

Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and curtain-side airbags. A wireless cell-phone link and USB port for controlling digital music players are available. Leather upholstery with heated front seats is optional on the LT.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro marks the return of this General Motors division’s iconic “pony car.” It bows as a 2-door coupe. A 2-door convertible version is due in early calendar 2011. The 2010 Camaro shares some of its basic design with the now-discontinued Pontiac G8 large sedan. It wears body styling inspired by the 1969 Camaro. LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS trim levels are offered. Two engines are available–a V6 and a V8.

The V6 is a 3.6-liter unit that produces 304 horsepower. It’s available on LS and LT. SS versions with a manual transmission get a 426-horsepower 6.2-liter V8. Automatic-equipped SS models also get a 6.2-liter V8, but it makes 400 horsepower and features GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation. V6 versions also offer a manual or automatic transmission. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags.

An RS Package for LT and SS models includes bi-xenon headlights, specific trim, and on LT versions, 20-inch wheels. All Camaros are available with 21-inch wheels. Rear-obstacle detection is standard on the 2LT and 2SS and optional on the 1LT. Other available features include a wireless cell-phone link, USB port, satellite radio, and remote engine start. An optional Transformers Special Edition package includes specific trim inspired by the movie of the same name.

2010 Chevrolet Avalanche

The 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche loses its available 6.0-liter V8 engine, but is largely unchanged otherwise. This reconfigurable pickup truck is essentially a crew-cab version of Chevrolet’s Suburban SUV with a folding “midgate” separating the cab from the cargo bed. Lowering the midgate extends the bed to 8.2 feet from 5.3 feet. Avalanche seats up to 6 and comes in LS, LT, and LTZ trims.

Each is available with rear-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes a low-range gear for off-roading. The sole engine is a 310-horsepower 5.3-liter V8. It comes with GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine is capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. Maximum towing capacity is 8,100 pounds.

Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. GM’s Autoride load-leveling suspension is standard on LTZ and not available otherwise. Options include a navigation system and DVD entertainment. Heated and cooled front seats are standard on LTZ models. Real-time traffic information is available on models with the navigation system. Also available are a wireless cell-phone link and rearview camera.

2010 Chevrolet Corvette

The 2010 Chevrolet Corvette lineup gains a new model, the Grand Sport. Chevy’s performance car comes as a coupe and convertible. Both body styles are available in Base and Grand Sport trim levels. Grand Sport replaces the Z51 option package and includes specific styling cues, suspension tuning, brakes, and transmission gearing.

These models have a 430-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine. An optional “dual-mode” exhaust system increases horsepower to 436. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Chevy offers other high-performance Corvette models, the Z06 and ZR1, both available only as coupes. Z06 has a 505-horsepower 7.0-liter V8, 6-speed manual transmission, specific suspension tuning, tires, and brakes. ZR1 has a supercharged 638-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine and 6-speed manual transmission. ZR1 differs from other Corvettes by its unique suspension tuning and use of lightweight carbon fiber on the hood, roof panel, roof bow, front-fascia splitter, and rocker moldings.

All manual-transmission Corvette models incorporate GM’s new Launch Control, which modulates engine speed in order to maximize grip during full-throttle launches. The ZR1 adds a “Performance Traction Management” system, which automatically adjusts the traction control and suspension to suit high-performance driving. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and side airbags. Among the available features are a head-up display, navigation system, and wireless cell phone link.

2010 Chevrolet Malibu

The 2010 Chevrolet Malibu lineup is revised, with the gas/electric Hybrid model no longer available for retail sale. This is the smaller of Chevy’s two midsize sedans. It shares its basic design with the Saab 9-3. LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels are largely unchanged. LS and LT have a 169-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, which is now capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. LS versions have a 4-speed automatic transmission while the LT and LTZ use a 6-speed automatic. LT and LTZ have an optional 252-hp 3.6-liter V6 that teams with the 6-speed automatic.

The 2010 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid is no longer available for retail sale, but it can be ordered for fleet deliveries. Available safety features on all Malibus include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. A wireless cell phone link, leather upholstery, and heated front seats are available.
