2010 Audi R8

The 2010 Audi R8 lineup gains a new, more powerful model. This 2-seat exotic car has Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive and a mid-mounted engine. The entry-level 4.2 has a 420-horsepower 4.2-liter V8 engine. New for 2010 is the 5.2, which has a 525-horsepower 5.2-liter V10. Both models are available with a 6-speed manual transmission or Audi’s R tronic 6-speed automated manual.

Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, side airbags, and knee airbags. Standard features on all R8 models include leather upholstery, heated seats, and wireless cell-phone link.

A hill-holder clutch, front- and rear-obstacle detection, rearview camera, navigation system, and high-end Bang and Olufsen audio system are standard on the 5.2 and optional on the 4.2. Note that, in calendar 2010, a 2-door convertible is slated to join the R8 lineup.

2010 Audi Q7

The 2010 Audi Q7 gets slightly freshened styling and a revised version of Audi’s MMI (Multi Media Interface). This premium-large SUV shares elements of its basic design with the Volkswagen Touareg. Q7 differs from the VW in styling, equipment, and price. It’s also larger and seats up to 7 versus Touareg’s 5. Q7 reprises 3.6 Premium, 4.2 Prestige, and 3.0 TDI Premium trim levels, all with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive. The 3.6 has a 280-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine.

The 4.2 has a 350-horsepower 4.2-liter V8. The 3.0 TDI has a 225-horsepower 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. All have a 6-speed automatic transmission. Maximum towing capacity is 6,600 pounds. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, 2nd-row side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. A driver-adjustable suspension with height control and adaptive cruise control are available. Audi’s revised MMI system is available with a navigation system that includes real-time traffic information.

It uses a dashboard screen and a console knob and switches to set audio, navigation, suspension, and many other functions. Among available features are rear-obstacle detection, keyless access/engine start, adaptive cruise control, and a three-panel sunroof. An available Luxury Package on the 4.2 and TDI includes ventilated front seats. The optional S line Package includes steering-wheel shift paddles, unique trim, and can be equipped with 20- or 21-inch wheels.

2010 Audi Q5

The 2010 Audi Q5 sees no major changes following its late-model-year 2009 introduction. Q5 is Audi’s first compact SUV. This 5-passenger wagon comes in a single Premium trim level with the company’s quattro all-wheel drive. The sole powertrain is a 270-horsepower 3.2-liter V6 engine that teams with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The AWD system splits torque 40/60 front/rear, and has the ability to shift as much as 65 percent to the front and 85 percent to the rear as driving conditions warrant.

Maximum towing capacity is 4,400 pounds. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-and rear side airbags. Available features include Audi’s MMI (Multi Media Interface) system, which uses a dashboard screen and control knob to control audio, navigation, suspension, and other functions.

Other available features include three-zone climate control, a navigation system with real-time traffic information, keyless entry/engine start, a rearview camera, blind-spot alert, a power tailgate, and a wireless cell-phone link. Optional is Audi Drive Select, which allows for driver control of engine, transmission, steering, and suspension settings. An optional S line package includes specific trim and 20-inch wheels.

2010 Audi A6

The 2010 Audi A6 3.2 gets slightly more power, while other versions of this premium midsize car are largely unchanged. A6 is offered as a sedan or Avant wagon. The base car is the front-wheel-drive 3.2 sedan. It has a 265-horsepower 3.2-liter V6, an increase of 10 horsepower from 2009. It teams with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic.

All other A6 versions reprise Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0T quattro is available as a sedan or wagon. It has a supercharged 300-horsepower 3.0-liter V6. The 4.2 quattro is a sedan with a 350-horsepower 4.2-liter V8. At the top of the A6 roster is the sporty S6 sedan, which has a 435-horsepower 5.2-liter V10.

Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front- and rear-side airbags. All A6 models have Audi’s MMI control that uses a console knob and switches, and a dashboard screen to adjust audio, climate, and other functions. A navigation system and keyless access/engine start are available.

2010 Audi A7

The A7 is, in effect, a four-door coupe version of the next A6. At the top of the lineup will be a 600-hp, twin-turbo V-10 version likely to be dubbed the RS 7. The buzz is that a cabriolet will be added in early 2011.

Reportedly based on the A6, the A7 is expected to be ready for the 2010 model year, making its debut in June 2009, most likely at either the Geneva or Frankfurt auto shows. All of the improvements put into the latest Audi models — new steering rack, multilink suspension, and a reconfigured quattro all-wheel-drive designed to send more power to the rear wheels — should find their way into the A7. The range-topper RS 7 model is expected to be a twin-turbo V10 engine producing 600-hp.

The four-door coupe craze that began with the CLS in 2004, is burgeoning with other entries planned, including the Porsche Panamera, Volkswagen Passat CC, and Aston Martin Rapide.

2010 Audi A4

The 2010 Audi A4 lineup gains a refreshed high-performance S4-sedan model. Audi’s top-selling car line features 4-door sedans and Avant wagons. The Cabriolet convertible is redesigned and is sold as part of Audi’s A5 lineup. Both the sedan and wagon continue to offer Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive, and the sedan is also available with front-wheel drive. Sedans and Avants come as the 2.0T and feature a turbocharged 211-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine.

The V6-powered 3.2 quattro has been discontinued. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard on front-drive 2.0Ts. 2.0T quattro models are available with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. S4 comes only with all-wheel drive and is powered by a 333-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6 mated to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic. S4 has 18-inch wheels and unique exterior and interior trim. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, rear side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Other available features include a navigation system; Audi Drive Select, which allows the driver to customize steering and suspension settings; blind-spot alert; keyless entry and engine start; a wireless cell-phone link; and a rearview camera.

Consumer Guide Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Premium Compact Cars are similar in size but more expensive than Compact Cars. Premium Compacts have more standard equipment and an upscale image when compared to Compact Cars.
