2009 Chevrolet Uplander

The 2009 Chevrolet Uplander is an unmatched addition to the minivan lineup of General Motors. General Motors had earlier made an impressive foray into the minivan segment with the launch of Venture.

But to keep pace with the changing needs, General Motors had to come up with something new. And the result is the 2009 2009 Chevrolet Uplander. The 2009 2009 Chevrolet Uplander is available in three awesome versions – base, a mid-level LS model, and the top-of-the-line LT.

The 2009 Chevrolet Uplander is equipped with 3.5-liter V-6 engine phenomenal in offering better horsepower and greater mileage. The engine has been backed up with four-speed automatic transmission. Among the minivans available in the U.S., Chevrolet Uplander is all set to become the most popular with its excellent spaciousness and supreme features. The 2009 Chevrolet Uplander is simply unbeatable for its flexible interior. And thanks to the flexibility, the car offers gigantic cargo space of 136.5 cubic feet. No matter how big your cargo is the 2009 Chevrolet Uplander will accommodate it quite easily. Also, have a look at its exterior – it’s simply incomparable and innovative. Of the four vehicles sharing this platform, there are few differences. The most significant of these is the offering of an integrated child seat in the Uplander LS model and that, in the U.S market, the Uplander is offered in two wheelbases and a cargo version. Suggested retail price for the Uplander ranges from US$21,250–33,795, depending on options. The Uplander is exported to Canada, Chile, Mexico, and the Middle East.

The four minivans all share a common platform and come equipped with a standard MP3/CD player. The Uplander and its siblings are all similarly styled and try to hit the “crossover” vehicle styling with its elongated front fascia.

2009 Chevrolet Traverse

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse is the first eight-passenger crossover SUV from General Motors’ volume division. Traverse shares its basic design with the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook, but the Chevy differs in pricing, features, and details. Three rows of seats are standard. The 2nd row includes bucket seats or a bench for a total passenger capacity of seven or eight, respectively.

In the entry-level LS and mid-grade LT models, power comes from a 281-hp 3.6-liter V6 engine that teams with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Top-line LTZ models include a standard dual exhaust system that allows the engine to make 288 hp. Maximum towing capacity is 5200 lb. Traverse is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Available safety equipment includes ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags.

The Traverse comes in the single, 4-door wagon body style of its corporate cousins. 17-inch wheels are standard, 18-inch and 20-inch wheels are available–the 20-inch wheels are standard on LTZ. Available features include DVD entertainment, rear climate control, leather upholstery, navigation system, remote engine start, satellite radio, rear obstacle detection, and a rearview camera. This evaluation is based on preview test drives.

2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lineup gains an available gas/electric hybrid model, a new top-line engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and some new features. This large pickup truck offers regular-, extended-, and crew-cab body styles. It shares its basic design with the GMC Sierra 1500. Extended cabs have rear-hinged doors that don’t open independently of the fronts. Regular cabs can seat up to three passengers, while extendeds and crews can seat up to six. Three bed lengths are available: the 5.8-foot short bed; 6.6-foot standard bed; and 8.0-foot long bed. The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado offers two interiors, dubbed “pure pickup” and “luxury inspired.” Available engines, depending on cab and bed configuration, are a 195-hp 4.3-liter V6; 295-hp 4.8-liter V8; 315-hp 5.3-liter V8; 367-hp 6.0-liter V8; and a new-for-2009 403-hp 6.2-liter V8. Certain versions of the 5.3-liter V8 and all 6.2 V8 engines can run on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. The 5.3 and 6.0 V8 engines come with GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation. V6, 4.8 V8, and some 5.3 V8 Silverados use a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Available on the 5.3 V8 and standard on the 6.2 V8 is a 6-speed automatic. Some rear-drive Silverados equipped with the 5.3-liter V8 and 6-speed automatic can be equipped as the XFE, which stands for Xtra Fuel Economy. XFE has specific wheels and tires, along with other mechanical and aerodynamic treatments. GM claims an increase in fuel economy of up to 7 percent over non-XFE versions. Maximum towing capacity is 10,700 pounds. The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid has a 6.0-liter V8 that pairs with an electric motor for 332 hp total. It can run on one or both of its power sources, depending on driving demands, and requires no plug-in charging. The hybrid uses a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The Hybrid’s maximum towing capacity is 6100 pounds.

Rear-wheel drive is standard. Two 4WD systems are available: A part-time setup that should not be left engaged on dry pavement, and GM’s Autotrac that can. Both include a low-range gear for off-roading. Silverado is available with several different suspensions. The Z83 and Z85 versions are designed for ride comfort. The Z60 is a street performance suspension, and the Z71 is for off-road use. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and curtain side airbags. Available features include a navigation system, remote engine start, and a new-for-2009 wireless cell-phone link.

2009 Chevrolet HHR

The 2009 Chevrolet HHR lineup receives a host of changes, including more standard power, the ability to run on E85 ethanol-blended fuel, and some new features. This compact wagon is named for its “Heritage High Roof” styling inspired by 1950s Chevrolet Suburbans. HHR is front-wheel drive and shares some of its basic design with Chevy’s Cobalt.

Most HHR models seat five, but Chevy also offers a two-seat “Panel” version that targets delivery companies. Regular and Panel models come in LS, LT, and high-performance SS trim levels. The SS Panel is new for 2009. LS and LT have a 155-hp 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine, which is an increase of 6 hp over 2008 models. Optional for LT is a 172-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. Both these engines are now capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel.

The SS has a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 250 or 260 hp depending on transmission selection. SS versions have a specific sport suspension, 18-inch wheels, and unique trim. Manual or automatic transmission is available on LS and SS. The automatic is standard on LT. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and curtain side airbags. Newly available on the 2009 HHR is a wireless cell-phone link.

2009 Chevrolet Colorado

The 2009 Chevrolet Colorado receives a new available engine and a few other changes. This compact pickup truck shares its basic design with the GMC Canyon. Regular and extended cab body styles are offered in Work and LT trims. A 4-door LT Crew Cab is also available. Regulars and extendeds have a 6-foot cargo bed. Crew Cabs have a 5-foot bed. All Colorados offer rear-wheel drive or part-time 4-wheel drive that should not be left engaged on dry pavement but has a low-range gear for off-roading.

Standard on most models is a 185-hp 2.9-liter 4-cylinder engine. Standard on 4WD Crew Cabs and optional on other Colorados is a 242-hp 3.7-liter 5-cylinder engine. Available on extended and Crew Cab models is a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8. Four-cylinder models are available with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Five-cylinder and V8 versions use the automatic only. Maximum towing capacity is 6000 lb. Available safety features include ABS, an antiskid system, traction control, and curtain side airbags.

Optional equipment includes an off-road suspension, sunroof, and leather upholstery. Sixteen-inch wheels are now standard on Work Truck models, and LT models are now available with 16-, 17-, or 18-inch wheels. Satellite radio is now standard on LT models. Also new for 2009 is a re-tuned version of the ZQ8 sport suspension package, which is available on V8 models and includes 18-inch wheels, performance tires.

2009 Chevrolet Camaro

What was originally the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro will now debut in the first quarter of calendar 2009 as a 2010 model. Camaro marks the return of this General Motors division’s iconic “pony car.” It bows as a 2-door coupe with a 2-door convertible model slated to arrive later in the the same model year. Many of the styling cues are derived from the 1969 Camaro.

The 2010 version shares some of its basic design with the Pontiac G8. Camaro comes in three trim levels: LS, LT, and high-performance SS. Two engines are available–a V6 and a V8. The V6 is a 3.6-liter unit that produces 300 hp. It’s available on LS and LT. SS versions with a manual transmission get a 422-hp 6.2-liter V8. Automatic-equipped SS models also get a 6.2-liter V8, but it makes 400 hp and features GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation.

V6 versions also offer a manual or automatic transmission. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Other available features include a wireless cell phone link, USB port, satellite radio, remote engine start, and later in the model year, rear-obstacle detection. 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche

The 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche is offered with a new 6-speed automatic transmission, a heavy-duty trailering package, and a new Luxury package. This reconfigurable pickup truck is essentially a crew-cab version of Chevrolet’s Suburban SUV with a folding midgate separating the cab from the cargo bed. Lowering the midgate extends the bed to 8.2 ft from 5.3. Avalanche seats up to six and comes in LS, LT, and LTZ trims.

Each is available with rear-wheel drive or full-time 4-wheel drive that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes a low-range gear for off-roading. Standard on 2WD Avalanches is a 320-hp 5.3-liter V8 engine. 4WD models get a 310-hp version of the same engine. Both are capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. Optional on LT and LTZ models is a 366-hp 6.0-liter V8. All engines have GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation, and they team with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Maximum towing capacity is 8100 lb.

Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and curtain side airbags. GM’s Autoride load-leveling suspension is standard on LTZs, optional on LTs. Options include a navigation system and DVD entertainment. Heated and cooled front seats are standard on LTZ models. Real-time traffic information is now available on models with the navigation system. Also available are a wireless cell phone link and rearview camera. 20-inch chrome-clad wheels are available on LTZ models.
