Performance

Every 2008 Quests is equipped wîth a standard 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine based on Nissan’s VQ35 engine series. For use in the Quest, the 3.5-liter V6 is tuned to produce 235 horsepower and 240 lb-ft torque (premium fuel). The engine design includes state-of-the-art design features, such as Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), microfinished crankshaft and camshaft, molybdenum-coated pistons and sequential multi-point electronic fuel injection. The engines are assembled at Nissan’s Decherd, Tenn. engine assembly facility.

Quest’s responsive V6 engine is matched wîth a standard 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission wîth overdrive. A Traction Control System (TCS) is also standard, while Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) is standard on the 3.5 SE and available on 3.5 SL models. Another element that is often overlooked in the minivan §egmènt is responsive handling and ride comfort. Útilizing Nissan’s advanced FF-L (for Front engine, Front-wheel drive, Large) platform, Quest features a 4-wheel independent suspension wîth a rear multi-link design and front and rear stabilizer bars.

Quest 3.5, 3.5 S and 3.5 SL models feature 16-inch wheels and P225/65R16 tires, wîth 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and P225/60R17 tires on the 3.5 SE model. A sensor-type Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) is standard on all 2008 Quests. Power-assisted rack-and-pinion §teering is also standard, along wîth 4-wheel vented disc brakes wîth Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

Interior

Quest offers innovative technology and utility features for families on the go. Quest’s instrument panel features an advanced Human Machine Interface (HMI) design, dual-zone HVAC controls (3.5 SL and 3.5 SE models) and an available DVD-based Nissan Navigation System wîth 7.0-inch color display. Quest also excels in terms of space management, wîth its long 124.0-inch wheelbase, 77.6-inch width and 67.3-inch front and rear track providing an overall interior volume of 211.9 cubic feet, one of the largest interior volumes of any front-wheel drive minivan. Quest’s sliding side door openings measure 33.8 inches, one of the longest in class, while the ample length and width allow for carrying large items on the floor wîth the rear door closed.

The 2008 Quest continues to advance the concept of flexibility and spontaneity. Special attention is paid to front seat dimensions, wîth large 1st row shoulder room. The seats themselves are a ‘furniture-style’ design, reinforcing the interior design concept of an urban loft. The Fold-Away 2nd and 3rd row seats, wîth the 3rd row folding flat, do not require the owner to remove the seats in order to create a large, fully usable storage area. The 2nd row seats fold down and drop forward to the floor. The 3rd row seat easily folds into a storage well in the floor. In addition, the 3rd row seat design includes integrated headrests that fold down wîth the simple pull of a strap. The rear seat then moves forward and down – a simple three-step movement that, aided by a spring assist, can be completed wîth one hand.

The sliding side doors and rear door are available wîth remote power operation for added convenience, wîth the switch for the automatic closing power rear door located on the upper left D-pillar for ease of use. Another unique highlight of the Quest interior is the SkyView™ glass-paneled roof, standard on 3.5 SE models and available on 3.5 SL models, which utilizes roof-mounted glass panels for the 2nd and 3rd rows that (along wîth the front sunroof) help enhance the use of natural light throughout the vehicle. A full-length rear overhead console is available wîth the SkyView glass-paneled roof. It creates aircraft-like interior comfort zones wîth personal reading lamps and air vents. The rear overhead console houses the Quest’s available DVD Mobile Entertainment System’s single or dual 8.0-inch fold-down color display screens, and includes rear HVAC controls.

Exterior Design

Quest’s breakthrough exterior addresses consumer concerns about traditional minivans’ conservative imagery. The contemporary body imparts a look of high quality and is marked by an arching roofline that transitions seamlessly off of the A-pillar, a strong shoulder that adds dimension to the body sides, well-defined wheel forms that have a minimal gap wîth the tire sidewalls and a fluid gesture in the beltline that starts low off of the headlights and kicks up toward the rear of the vehicle.

The flowing Nissan-signature grille and angular front bumper fascia offer a bold, aggressive stance from the front. Quest’s door handles are chrome, wîth other chrome accents enhancing the clean, modern look of the vehicle. The roof rack features a satin-look finish. One new exterior color is offered for 2008 – Lakeshore Slate – among seven total colors.

Safety and Security

Quest was developed wîth a strong focus on both active safety – through the responsive engine, suspension and braking technologies – and passive safety through a comprehensive set of passive restraint systems. For 2008, front seat side-impact supplemental airbags are now standard on all four Quest models. Other standard Quest safety equipment includes the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), which utilizes crash zone sensor and advanced occupant weight sensing capability to control front passenger air bag deployment; head curtain supplemental air bags to help protect 1st, 2nd and 3rd row outboard occupants in side-impact collisions; 3-point seat belts and height-adjustable head restraints for all seating positions; and front seat Active Head Restraints.

Quest also includes Zone Body construction wîth front and rear crumple zones and occupant zone, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren) child seat anchorage system, child safety rear door locks and Vehicle Security System (VSS). Also available is a RearView Monitor system (standard on 3.5 SE and 3.5 SL) that utilizes a small camera mounted near the rear license plate that projects a view of what’s directly behind the vehicle to the Vehicle Information Center display screen. The system is activated any time reverse gear is engaged and helps enhance the driver’s rearward view. Quest also includes a standard Rear Sonar System (standard on 3.5 SL and 3.5 SE models, newly available on 3.5 S model), which provides an audible beep when approaching solid objects while backing up.

2009 Nissan Versa

When the all-new Nissan Versa was launched in North America for the 2007 model year, there was a cautious optimism that its breakout combination of outstanding roominess, comfort, fuel efficiency, style, safety and versatility would find acceptance in the marketplace. One year later, Versa is a major success, wîth sales building month after month – attracting a wide range of buyers seeking a dynamic alternative to traditional entry-level hatchbacks and sedan. (concept carz) For 2008, Versa expands its appeal wîth an optional Sport Package for Versa Sedan SL models (already available on Versa Hatchback SL).

Built on Nissan’s proven B-platform, Versa’s unique packaging layout provides a spacious cabin wîth class-leading head and rear leg room. Versa also offers the highest standard horsepower rating in class and unexpected available technology, including include Nissan’s Intelligent Key, a Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer, an auxiliary mp3 player input and XM® Satellite Radio.

Along wîth its low cost of entry, Versa offers exceptional interior space and a responsive driving experience, empowering buyers to make their choice based on want they want, not what they can afford,’ said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. ‘Add in Versa’s fresh styling, a comfortable interior and innovation found only in higher §egmènt vehicles and it creates a smart, uncompromising choice. No wonder Versa has been one of our most successful new product introductions in recent Nissan history. Versa Hatchback went on sale in July 2006, wîth the Versa Sedan model following in January 2007. Through June 2007, the two Versas have combined to sell more 59,000 units in less than one year of production.

Price: $12,880 – 15,980.
Invoice: $12,530 – 15,415.

Two Distinctive Body Styles And Drivetrain

The front-wheel drive Versa is offered in two body styles, a 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan – each available in two well-equipped models, the Versa 1.8 S or the Versa 1.8 SL. The exterior of the Versa Hatchback and Sedan, wîth their long 102.4-inch wheelbases and short front and rear overhangs, feature a dynamic look and attention to detail, as seen in the large headlights, signature Nissan grille and large taillights. The Versa exteriors also feature body-color front and rear bumpers, large headlights, body-color dual remote-controlled outside mirrors and a coefficient of drag of 0.31. Versa’s expressive styling is another strong selling point, exceeding the usual expectations in class, wîth a touch of sophistication and, definitely, quality – instead of the traditional bland, boxy, cheap-feeling small hatches and sedans,’ said Bosley. ‘Versa’s crisp, youthful body forms and long rooflines suggest both the roominess inside and Versa’s performance capabilities.

A Sport Package is now available on the 2008 Versa Sedan 1.8 SL model (previously offered on Versa Hatchback 1.8 SL). The Sport Package adds a higher level of performance styling wîth a rear spoiler (roof-mounted for Hatchback, decklid-mounted for Sedan), lower body side sill extensions, unique front and rear fascia (Hatchback) and chin spoiler (Sedan) and fog lights. All 2008 Versas feature a standard 16-valve 1.8-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine and a choice of three transmissions: an available Nissan Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission) (SL models), available 4-speed electronically controlled automatic wîth overdrive (S models) or standard 6-speed manual transmission.

With 122 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque, the 1.8-liter engine is powerful and responsive, but it also delivers excellent fuel economy. Estimated 2008 EPA fuel economy is 27 mpg City/33 mpg Highway wîth the CVT transmission; 24 mpg City/31 mpg highway wîth the 4-speed automatic transmission; and 26 mpg City/31 mpg Highway wîth the 6-speed manual transmission. The Xtronic CVT, unlike conventional stepped gear automatics, operates as essentially ‘one gear’ through use of a belt and two pulleys. By infinitely varying the working diameters of the two pulleys, the transmission eliminates the ‘steps’ between gears, resulting in a smoother, more efficient operation by keeping the engine in its optimum power range under a variety of driving and load conditions.

With the availability of the Xtronic CVT in Versa, we’re putting our best technology on our entry-level vehicle. All 2008 Versas are equipped wîth an independent MacPherson strut front suspension and torsion beam rear suspension, wîth front and rear stabilizer bars. Other standard equipment includes electric power §teering, power-assist front disc/rear drum brakes and 15-inch wheels wîth P185/65HR15 tires. Also available are an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) wîth Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) and 15-inch 6-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels.

Interior

In Versa, Nissan’s design and engineering teams found a way to fit a large interior in a small car. Interior length, front to back, is more than six feet. Both the Versa Hatchback and Versa Sedan have large cargo areas, ideal for owners wîth highly active lives. Versa Hatchback models feature a 60/40 split fold-down rear bench that allows for a wider spectrum of passenger/cargo space combinations.

‘The ‘versatile space’ provided by the roomy interior and cargo area is reflected in the vehicle’s name, Versa,’ said Bosley. ‘Versa has the longest front-to-back cabin in its class, wîth plenty of leg room both up front and in the back seat simultaneously. Plus there’s no need to be sliding the front seats forward every time there are more than two people in the car.’

Along wîth a spacious cabin, Versa offers a clean, simple, high quality interior design and excellent craftsmanship. The front seats are nearly as large as Maxima’s and comfort is a priority for all passengers. The wide, laterally oriented instrument panel underscores Versa’s width, while the low center console flows freely toward the rear, giving a sense of the interior’s length.

Both Sedan and Hatchback designs also integrate convenient storage solutions, including in the center console, glove box, front doors and an in-dash CD storage compartment. In addition, Versa comes wîth a long list of standard and available equipment, including available Intelligent Key, Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System, satellite radio and Clarion speakers wîth a Rockford Fosgate-powered subwoofer.

Safety

Versa has received the highest possible ratings in both government (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – ’5 stars’) and private (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety – ‘Good’) safety tests, thanks in part to safety features including the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) (includes dual-stage front supplemental air bags and front seat side-impact supplemental air bags for chest protection), and available roof-mounted curtain side-impact air bags for front and rear outboard occupant head protection. Additional safety features on 2008 Versas include standard LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system, child safety rear door locks, child seat upper tether anchors, front seat Active Head Restraints and standard Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS).

Altima’s chassis layout also offers roomy front and rear interior headroom and legroom, plus ample cargo storage wîth 15.3 cubic feet of trunk space. The fourth-generation Altima design looks and feels open and accessible,’ said Bosley. ‘All of its dimensions, both inside and out, have been specifically engineered to embody the Altima design philosophy of offering the total package of style, performance and comfort. The 2008 Altima exterior is available wîth 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels and 16-inch steel wheels wîth covers. Nine exterior colors are offered.

Performance

Altima’s exhilarating driving pleasure comes from a tuned combination of strong acceleration, responsive handling and dynamic sound – provided by the rigid ‘D’ platform and advanced engine designs. The 2008 Altima continues to utilize Nissan’s innovative ‘D’ platform, which offers improved body rigidity over the previous design, and an advanced independent front suspension wîth dynamic geometry and shock absorbers wîth rebound springs. A low engine-mounting position features a six-point pendulum-type mounting system and the half-shafts are set at equal angles and nearly parallel to the ground – virtually eliminating torque steer.

Altima’s subframe-mounted front suspension makes extensive use of lightweight aluminum parts. An X-type upper cowl structure helps establish front body rigidity for suspension mounting. The rear multi-link independent suspension design separates the rear shock absorbers and springs for minimized friction and the shocks are in line wîth the center of the rear wheels, providing excellent damping and almost no harshness. Front and rear stabilizer bars are standard. Altima 3.5 SE offers larger diameter stabilizer bars and unique spring rates and strut damping, as well as 17-inch wheels and tires. Two powerplants are available in the 2008 Altima, the 13-time Ward’s ’10 Best Engines’ award-winning VQ-series V6 and an inline 4-cylinder. The 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 is rated at 270 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and offers strong acceleration and a tuned, resonant sound quality.

The V6 features minimized friction, superior cylinder head cooling and twin knock sensors. Also available is a 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder producing 175 horsepower (170 hp CAL) and 180 lb-ft of torque (175 lb-ft CAL). The QR25 engine was refined for 2007 wîth a larger intake manifold, increased compression ratio (9.6:1 from 9.5:1) and reduced friction characteristics. It features a silent chain drive and a balancer system (with balancer changed to a center-mounted location for excellent NVH) that effectively negates vibrations without taking up much space – combining ideal packaging and smoothness. Both engines feature continuously variable valve timing, modular engine design, microfinished crank journals and cam lobes, molybdenum coated lightweight pistons and electronically controlled throttles. Altima’s standard dual exhaust system is designed to reduce exhaust backpressure by 35% on the 4-cylinder and 50% wîth the V6 (over the previous generations). Both systems utilize large tube diameters and include dual chrome-tipped exhaust finishers.

Quality and Detail

The 2008 Altima continues to emphasize refined workmanship and the use of soft materials, such as padded armrests, and stylish chrome accents. Interior noise levels are minimized by the rigid ‘D’ platform and increased sound insulation. Altima’s instrument panel features a Fine Vision gauge display for precise readability and the L-shaped flow of the instrument panel to the center console adds to a driver-oriented cockpit feel. The center console includes a triple front cup holder design (CVT-equipped models), among the many convenient cup and bottle areas (up to nine total, including 20-ounce bottle holders in the door panels) and storage compartments, many of which are covered. The volume of the glove compartment is also substantial, measuring an accommodating 0.46 cubic feet. Thee interiors colors are available – charcoal, blonde and frost. The interior is offered in both high quality soft-touch suede fabric and wîth leather-appointed seating. Among the innovative passenger amenities for the class are available Intelligent Key wîth Push Button Ignition, Bose ®-developed audio system wîth nine speakers, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System and dual-zone automatic temperature control.

Smooth And Efficient

The 2008 Altima is offered wîth a choice of two transmissions wîth both the V6 and 4-cylinder engines. A 6-speed, narrow-gate manual features low friction, short shift stroke, high torque capacity and close gear ratios covering a wide range. The Xtronic CVT is designed to create a true synergy between engine and transmission wîth smooth, responsive, fluid-feeling performance and efficient operation. The CVT units utilized wîth both engines have been tailored specifically for use wîth the Altima. The V6 CVT features a ‘Sport’ mode controller wîth a high-speed central processing unit and Adaptive Shift Controller wîth adaptive logic for fast shifting in both normal and manual modes. The adaptive logic feature delivers the best shift pattern based on the driving environment and driver’s perceived intentions. It utilizes 700 programmed algorithms to adjust to differing conditions, such as uphill or downhill driving, as well as adapting to three styles of driving – economy, normal and sporty. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) wîth Traction Control System (TCS) is available as an option wîth Altima 3.5-lter V6 equipped models.

Structure, Steering and Braking

The 2008 Altima’s sturdy body structure includes extensive use of Últra High Strength Steel, which is utilized in many locations around the vehicle, including side-impact areas. Altima’s standard twin-orifice vehicle-speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion §teering system provides light §teering effort at low speeds and a secure feeling at high speeds, along wîth a secure, ‘on center’ feel.
