Chassis and Suspension
All Escalade models are built on GM’s full-size SÚV platform, incorporating a fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, five-link/coil-spring rear suspension and rack-and-pinion §teering. Magnetic Ride Control is standard on Escalade Hybrid and the Platinum Edition. It is a real-time damping system that delivers more precise body motion control – ‘reading’ the road every millisecond and changing damping in just five milliseconds. It replaces conventional mechanical-valve shocks wîth electronically controlled shocks filled wîth a magneto-rheological fluid containing minute iron particles. Únder the presence of magnetic charge, the iron particles align to provide damping resistance almost instantly.
Powertrains
All Escalade models are equipped wîth a 6.2L V-8 rated at 403 horsepower (301 kW) and 417 lb.-ft. of torque (565 Nm). It features variable valve timing, Active Fuel Management technology and E85 capability.
• Continuously variable valve timing allows linear delivery of torque, wîth near-peak levels over a broad rpm range, and high specific output (horsepower per liter of displacement). It also helps reduce exhaust emissions. Because it manages valve overlap at optimum levels, it eliminates the need for an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.
• GM’s Active Fuel Management technology temporarily deactivates four of the engine’s cylinders under light-load conditions to help optimize fuel economy, and seamlessly reactivates them when full power is required. The transition takes less than 20 milliseconds and is virtually indiscernible.
• A heavy-duty timing chain delivers quiet operation and long life. It is validated for 200,000 miles (320,000 km) of operation.
• E85 is a clean-burning, domestically produced alternative fuel composed of 85 percent ethanol alcohol and 15 percent gasoline. Ethanol is renewable and produces fewer greenhouse gases during the combustion process.
• The fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission is paired wîth the 6.2L engine in all models.
OnStar Details
OnStar is standard on all Escalade models. It uses GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in the event of crash. OnStar subscribers also can use the service to be Good Samaritans by sending help to other motorists, and to call for help in other non-crash emergencies.
• OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the Únited States and Canada.
• One year of complimentary OnStar Directions and Connections service wîth Turn-by-Turn Navigation for easier route guidance on all Escalade models. The feature is easy to use because all directions are sent to the car by an advisor, without the need to stop.
• Stolen Vehicle Assistance helps police track the vehicle.
• myCadillac and OnStar myLink mobile apps offer vehicle information and OnStar services via the customer’s smartphone.
To thwart thefts, Escalade has a sophisticated cryptographic immobilizer system, PASS Key 3+. Since 2010, Escalade has included a §teering column lock system to help prevent other theft conditions, including push-away theft.
2008 Cadillac Escalade
Having earned a position as the image and sales leader among large luxury SÚVs, Cadillac Escalade enters 2008 lòòking to extend its considerable momentum. With three body styles – Escalade, and the extended length Escalade ESV and EXT luxury sport-utility truck – Cadillac offers the widest array of models in the §egmènt. This broad lineup will expand even further when the Escalade Platinum edition and the Escalade Hybrid join the family later in 2008.
Completely redesigned for 2007, the ’08 Escalades feature integrated powertrain, chassis, safety and interior systems that deliver the most powerful, efficient luxury SÚVs in the §egmènt, led by a 6.2L all-aluminum V-8 engine wîth variable valve timing technology delivering 403 horsepower (301 kW)* and 417 lb.-ft. of torque (565 Nm).* The Escalade and Escalade ESV are available in AWD and 2WD configurations (2WD is new to Escalade ESV for ’08), while the Escalade EXT sport-utility truck features standard, full-time AWD.
Escalade sports a sleek, clean and athletic form wîth improved aerodynamics. It is instantly identifiable as a Cadillac and incorporates styling cues from Cadillac’s landmark Sixteen concept vehicle, including a detailed signature grille, front fender vent ports and layers of chrome accents. It was Escalade that first introduced the exclusive Platinum series to Cadillac as a limited-edition model expressing the full extent of the brand’s luxury attributes. Details on the 2008 Escalade Platinum will be announced later in 2007.
Luxury and advanced technology also converge in the Escalade Hybrid, to be introduced in the 2008 calendar year. The Escalade Hybrid will feature GM’s two-mode hybrid propulsion system combining gas and electric engines for significant fuel economy improvements, while maintaining the traditional capabilities of a full-size SÚV. While conventional full hybrid systems offer only one electric mode that is used during low-speed driving, GM is teaming up wîth DaimlerChrysler and BMW Group to co-develop the patented two-mode hybrid system. The technology is based on GM’s highly successful hybrid system in use on hundreds of GM transit buses across North America .
Price: $54,890 – 81,595.
Invoice: $50,770 – 75,475.
The first mode of the system is for low speed and light loads. In this mode, the hybrid system can operate wîth electric power only, engine power only and any combination of engine and electric power. When the first mode operates as electric only, fuel consumption is reduced in heavy stop-and-go traffic by shutting off the engine for extended periods of time and moving exclusively under electric power at low speeds.
The second mode is primarily used at highway speeds. In addition to electric assist, the second mode integrates sophisticated electronic controls, such as Active Fuel Management, cam phasing and late-intake valve closure, to allow even more efficient engine operation wîth electric motors less than half the size of a traditional ‘one-mode’ hybrid system. Full eight-cylinder engine power is provided when conditions demand it, such as passing, towing or climbing a steep grade.
Design
Details in elements such as wraparound fascias, styled mirrors and integrated running boards enhance Escalade’s flowing design, enabling a look that is both aggressive and elegant. The sleek, toned look includes a windshield angle of 57 degrees, which flows gracefully into the roofline. This also improves aerodynamic performance to a §egmènt-best 0.363 coefficient of drag, which helps improve fuel economy and reduce wind noise. The warm and inviting interior features a premium and distinct layout not shared by other GM full-size SÚVs. The cabin, which comes in two colors, Ebony and Cashmere, also is spacious, wîth an instrument panel that is lower and moved forward in the vehicle.

Power
A 6.2L V-8 rated at 403 horsepower (301 kW)* and 417 lb.-ft. of torque (565 Nm)* is exclusive to the Escalade family. This all-aluminum engine uses v ariable valve timing (VVT) to optimize camshaft timing to improve low-rpm torque and high-rpm horsepower. The introduction of variable valve timing through the unique, dual-equal cam phaser is the industry’s first application of VVT on a mass-produced V-8 overhead-valve engine. A Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission is matched wîth the 6.2L engine. One of the industry’s most advanced automatics, the 6L80 features clutch-to-clutch shifting and has a wide, 6.04:1 overall ratio – including two overdrive gears – that helps deliver an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy.
A strong frame and chassis support the Escalade’s robust powertrain and enable exceptional responsiveness and ride and handling smoothness. Large, four-wheel disc brakes and a Bosch ABS system help ensure braking performance. ABS works wîth the StabiliTrak stability control system’s rollover mitigation technology. This software algorithm technology uses sensors to proactively predict vehicle ‘tip-up’ and apply appropriate brake force to help prevent such events.
Safe and Sound
Escalade is designed to be among the industry’s safest and most secure vehicles, wîth numerous safety systems and crash-avoidance technologies. Occupant protection features include head curtain side air bags wîth rollover protection for all seating rows and an industry-first 360-degree front safety belt pretensioner activation system. In keeping wîth Cadillac’s reputation for advanced technology, OnStar-equipped Escalade models feature Generation 7 technology and OnStar’s Turn-by-Turn Navigation, the first factory-installed, fully integrated GPS navigation system from OnStar.
Turn-by-Turn allows consumers to talk to a live advisor, who in turn sends complete step-by-step directions to customers’ vehicles through their OnStar system. These audio directions automatically play through the vehicle’s stereo as needed, triggered by the OnStar system’s GPS capabilities. This enables drivers to be led to their destination while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Design
The XLR is a contemporary expression of Cadillac’s heritage of landmark design and advanced technology. Inspired by Stealth fighter aircraft design, XLR creates a dramatic presence of modern luxury and performance. The XLR offers the ultimate convenience of a retractable hard top. By pushing and holding a single button, the XLR can convert from coupe to open roadster in less than 30 seconds. The top is made of aluminum and magnesium wîth composite exterior panels, a heated glass backlight and glass rear-quarter windows. The interior design expresses contemporary luxury. Únique eucalyptus wood in light or dark tones, combined wîth striking aluminum accents, provide a luxurious and inviting environment. The gauges were designed in conjunction wîth Italian luxury brand Bvlgari.
Power
The XLR’s Northstar 4.6L V-8 VVT is a 90-degree, DOHC, four-valves-per-cylinder engine featuring an aluminum block and cylinder heads, and a valvetrain configuration wîth roller finger followers. It generates 320 horsepower (239 kW) and 310 lb.-ft. (420 Nm) of torque. The engine also features continuously variable valve timing (VVT); electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated intake and exhaust cam phasers on all four camshafts for extra control; electronic throttle control (ETC); low restriction intake and exhaust manifolds and cylinder head ports; close coupled catalytic converters mounted directly adjacent to the exhaust manifolds; and an air induction system designed for enhanced capacity and noise attenuation.
The V-8 offers smooth, refined performance throughout its entire operating range. It is quiet, yet tuned to give the driver feedback from the environment. It operates cleanly and efficiently, wîth excellent reliability and durability. The 4.6L V-8 is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. An advantage of Cadillac’s roadster not shared by competitors is its rear-mounted transmission. This helps give the XLR a virtual 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution for superior balance, as well as providing occupants wîth unusually roomy footwell space.
Structure and Suspension
The XLR uses GM’s unique, patented performance car structure, featuring steel hydroformed perimeter frame rails, an enclosed structural ‘tunnel,’ an aluminum cockpit configuration and balsa-cored composite floors. Providing rigidity without bulk, and wîth exceptional resistance to torsional and bending forces, this structure is the foundation for the XLR’s outstanding ride and handling characteristics.
The suspension system makes the XLR a true luxury roadster wîth the handling qualities of a performance car. The design uses double wishbones at each corner, combined wîth transverse-mounted, composite leaf springs front and rear. The system is designed to maintain firm control over wheel motion, while delivering a composed and compliant ride quality. The XLR achieves a maximum lateral G-force of more than 0.9. It runs on Goodyear EMT tires wîth advanced run-flat technology that eliminate the need for a spare and provide outstanding overall tire performance. For 2008, the XLR offers optional chrome wheels.
Control
The XLR was one of the world’s first vehicles to be equipped wîth Magnetic Ride Control – electronically controlled, magnetic-fluid based real-time damping. Standard on XLR and XLR-V, The system uses four wheel-to-body displacement sensors to measure wheel motion over the road surface and responds by adjusting the shock damping at speeds approaching one millisecond. The secret is the magneto-rheological fluid contained in its dampers, replacing traditional mechanical valves. Suspended in this fluid are tiny iron particles that respond to an electromagnetic charge. A different piston profile new for 2008 improves damping capability and decreases shock temperatures, resulting in a new calibration for the vehicle and improved ride and handling.
Comfort and Convenience
XLR features Keyless Access, making it a truly ‘keyless’ car. A driver can simply keep the fob in a pocket or purse to operate the doors, trunk and ignition. The fob communicates wîth the XLR’s computer control system via radio antennas under the car’s bodywork. The system is intuitive and hassle free. XLR is one of the first vehicles to pioneer the use of Adaptive Forward Lighting. This technology enables the headlamps to adjust the lighting pattern in synch wîth vehicle §teering, a significant boost to a driver’s nighttime visibility.
XLR’s seatbacks and cushions are heated and cooled. For 2008, a heated §teering wheel is added. A seven-inch (178-mm) color touch screen mounted in the upper center console gives driver and passenger access to DVD navigation; a nine-speaker Bose audio system wîth a six-CD in-dash changer and digital signal processing modes; XM Satellite Radio (Ú.S. and Canada), and DVD entertainment (available in Park position only). The XLR also is equipped wîth a head-up display that projects key driver information onto the windshield.
The XLR has adaptive cruise control (ACC). While not a substitute for full driver attention, this system expands the convenience of cruise control. ACC uses a radar sensor mounted at the front of the car to detect objects in its path. If the lane ahead is clear, the system maintains the set speed, just like conventional cruise control. When it detects a vehicle in the same lane in front of the car, the system adjusts speed to help maintain a constant following distance, set by the driver.
XLR models feature Generation 7 OnStar technology, including OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation. Turn-by-Turn is the first factory-installed, fully integrated GPS navigation system from OnStar. It enables consumers to talk to a live advisor, who in turn sends complete step-by-step directions to customers’ vehicles through their OnStar system. These audio directions automatically play through the vehicle’s stereo as needed, triggered by the OnStar system’s GPS capabilities. This enables drivers to be led to their destination while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
2008 Cadillac STS
The 2008 Cadillac STS debuts next month wîth a new, 302-horsepower engine wîth direct injection technology that improves fuel economy and reduces emissions. In addition, Cadillac’s luxury performance sedan also showcases enhanced signature styling and the addition of leading-edge safety technology. For the past two decades, the Cadillac STS has been a showcase of luxury, performance and technology,’ says Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. ‘The enhanced 2008 model extends that wîth bolder design, more standard power, better fuel efficiency, improved emissions and new safety technology.
For 2008, STS will be the first GM vehicle equipped wîth a new 3.6L direct injection V-6 engine. Direct Injection, an advanced system for more precise and productive fuel delivery, enables the rare achievement of simultaneous gains in power, fuel efficiency and emissions performance. The new standard engine for STS delivers a SAE-certified 302 horsepower (225 kW) at 6300 rpm,* 47 more horsepower (35 kW) than the previous 3.6-liter V-6. Torque is also increased to 272 lb.-ft. (366 Nm) at 5200 rpm,* an upgrade of 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). At the same time, the engine is expected to deliver improved fuel efficiency. Official EPA fuel economy statistics for the 2008 model have not yet been announced.
On the outgoing 2007 model STS, EPA fuel economy is 18 mpg city and 27 mpg hwy. Additionally, direct injection’s more efficient operation enables a 25-percent reduction in cold-start hydrocarbon emissions. Coupled to the new V-6 engine will be the 6L50 six-speed automatic transmission, introduced last year on Northstar V-8 models, which has a generous 6.04:1 overall ratio that enables a steep first-gear that helps deliver strong launch acceleration. The STS V-6 continues to be available wîth all-wheel drive for 2008.
GM’s Lane Departure Warning System also debuts on the 2008 STS. Controlled by a camera located in the rearview mirror that reads the lines in the road, the system will alert drivers when they have strayed into another lane. Drivers get both an audible and visual alert cue. When the Lane Departure Warning System is engaged, a driver traveling at 35 mph or more who crosses a detected lane marking without signaling is alerted in two ways: The system flashes an amber indicator light located in the fuel gauge of the instrument panel, and an alerting chime of three beeps is played. The system does not steer the vehicle; it is designed only to alert drivers so they can take appropriate action to move the vehicle back into the lane.
Price: $43,775 – 78,775.
Invoice: $40,930 – 72,080.
GM’s Side Blind Zone Alert System extends and enhances driver awareness and vision. Alternating radar beams in Side Blind Zone Alert System sweep adjacent lanes of traffic, covering a zone of about one lane over from both sides of the vehicle, or 11 feet (3.5 m). The zone starts at each side mirror and goes back about 16 feet (5 m). When the system is engaged, a driver will know that following vehicles in the adjacent lanes are entering their side blind zone when an amber symbol, located in the outside rearview mirror, is illuminated. The system is not designed to detect vehicles outside of the side blind zone that may be rapidly approaching, or detect pedestrians, bicyclists or animals. It’s designed to ignore infrastructure such as fire hydrants or parked cars. In addition, the system displays do not come on while the vehicle is approaching or passing other vehicles.
The Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Zone Alert systems can be manually turned off by the driver. A new performance handling package will be available for V-8-equipped rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive models and V-6-equipped rear-drive models. The package includes 18-inch x 8.5-inch aluminum alloy, chrome-plated wheels fitted wîth new P255/45R18 Michelin Pilot Sport summer-only tires. Four-piston caliper Brembo brakes, wîth front rotors measuring 355 mm x 32 mm and 365 mm x 28 mm rear rotors, provide enhanced baking. All four rotors are vented.
Continuing Cadillac’s commitment to the advancement of safety and performance attributes, the 2008 STS includes new systems and advanced technologies to enhance driver awareness and control. For the first time, Cadillac’s acclaimed StabiliTrak electronic stability control system now includes the optional addition of active §teering technology. In addition to controlling brakes and reducing engine power, the latest iteration of StabiliTrak combines active front §teering to turn the front wheels into the skid when rear wheels lose traction. The system includes a new §teering motor assembly combined wîth computer-driven electronic controls that measure wheel slippage at all four wheels independently during acceleration, braking and adverse road conditions.
The new STS injects more of the bold design flair that has become a Cadillac signature. Úp front, the dual-textured, multi-faceted grille – first seen on the landmark Cadillac Sixteen concept car and incorporated on both the Escalade and soon-to-be-launched CTS – has been adapted to the STS. High Intensity Discharge lamps and the Intellibeam automatic high-beam system are added for the first time for V-6 models. The lower front fascia features a new intake and grille pattern evoking Cadillac’s V-Series high-performance models.
Similarly, side air extractors, again inspired by the Sixteen and Escalade, are now incorporated into the front fenders of STS. New chrome-plated door handles and lower rocker moldings are added for more presence and refinement. At the rear, the new fascia is now body color and is highlighted wîth polished aluminum three-inch exhaust tips. New, polished 18-inch x 8-inch aluminum 14-spoke wheels are available. The luxurious interior of the STS includes a new §teering wheel wîth available genuine Sapele Pommele wood trim. The center stack of the instrument panel is revised wîth the addition of wood and metallic trim.
Continuing Cadillac’s commitment to using advanced safety features, the 2008 STS will offer new features including a new performance handling package; enhanced variable-effort §teering wîth StabiliTrak on V-8 models; and new lane departure warning and blind side alerts. The new performance handling package will be available for V-8-equipped rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models and V-6-equipped rear-drive models. The package includes 18-inch by 8.5-inch aluminum alloy, chrome-plated wheels fitted wîth new P255/45R18 Michelin Pilot Sport summer-only tires.
Brembo brakes wîth four-piston calipers provide enhanced braking, wîth front rotors measuring 14-inch by 1.2-inch (355mm x 32mm) coupled wîth 14.4-inch by 1.1-inch (365mm x 28mm) rear rotors. All four rotors are vented.
To help alert drivers to maintain their position on the road, the STS will be available wîth a new lane departure system. Controlled by a camera located in the rearview mirror that reads the lines in the road, the system will alert drivers when they have strayed into another lane. Drivers will get both audible and visual alert cues. Another new feature is an available blind spot alert system. The radar-based convenience feature will provide drivers wîth a visual alert that appears on the outside rearview mirror when vehicles appear in a specified side zone. Also available is a ‘theater’ package consisting of Bose 5.1 Digital Surround, DVD navigation and rear-seat DVD entertainment. SRX also adds an automatic odor filtration option and standard PSIR suppression, which enables the Passenger Side Inflatable Restraint to detect the occupant’s size and, in turn, enable or disable the air bag automatically.
The Cadillac-exclusive architecture features the longest wheelbase in its class and helps provide superior ride quality and dynamic stability. A near 50-50 weight distribution, low center of gravity, outstanding powertrain combinations and GM’s StabiliTrak stability control system help SRX deliver a fine balance between sports car performance and refined ride quality. StabiliTrak is a fully electronic system that coordinates subsystems such as braking, suspension, §teering, traction control and powertrain controls to optimize overall vehicle stability and control.
It acts instantaneously to reduce the likelihood of spins and excessive oversteer or understeer by improving handling performance and enhancing vehicle stability when the car approaches its limits. It helps to correct a potential slide or loss of control before the driver is aware of it. Magnetic Ride Control, pioneered by Cadillac in 2003, provides state-of-the-art, continuously variable real-time damping at each wheel independently and is available on V-6 and V-8 models.
At first glance, SRX is instantly recognizable as a Cadillac and yet is unlike anything else on the road. The family resemblance to CTS and Escalade is immediately evident; its Cadillac bloodline shows through in its chiseled vertical taillamps and headlamps and V-shaped grille. At the same time, it clearly stands out from its European and Japanese competitors. SRX seats up to seven passengers wîth the optional third-row seat. The second-row seat, wîth the most legroom in its class at 41 inches (104 cm), folds virtually flat, and the available third-row seat power-folds into the floor at the push of a button.
Third-row seats also feature cupholders. A power liftgate is standard. The instrument panel and door trim are built using Cadillac’s ‘cut-and-sew’ interior process that combines advanced technology wîth the hand-rendered expertise of expert craftsmen. The vehicle’s cockpit is hand-built, in the same painstaking fashion Cadillac applies to the limited-production STS-V and XLR-V models, bringing elite craftsmanship into the heart of the luxury marketplace.
In addition to numerous storage areas, an optional rear cargo management system, available as an alternative to the third-row seat, offers three cargo compartments and includes a removable storage bin. It’s perfect for stowing anything from a car care or emergency kit to sports equipment to DVDs or CDs for a long drive. For still more cargo packing, large side storage bins along the rear cargo area are standard.
The SRX has the largest sunroof system available in the §egmènt. The optional ‘ÚltraView’ sunroof provides the thrill of an open-air driving experience. It extends to provide 5.6 square feet (0.52 square meters) of open air over the first- and second-row seats and integrates a retractable power shade. The ‘ÚltraView Plus’ includes a glass roof over the third-row seat wîth a power sunshade.
OnStar-equipped SRX models feature OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation, a fully integrated GPS navigation system from OnStar.

The LD8 puts more emphasis on quick launch and part-throttle response wîth greater peak torque.
Chassis
The DTS chassis combines performance and luxury capabilities to a degree never before reached on a full-size Cadillac sedan. (concept carz) Chassis tuning achieves a smooth, quiet, refined ride. The DTS features a front cradle design, wîth the engine mounted to the cradle, and the cradle mounted to the body rails. Integrated chassis control technologies include four-channel anti-lock brakes and traction control, four-channel StabiliTrak wîth Brake Assist, and Magnetic Ride Control. Magnetic Ride, pioneered on Cadillac STS and XLR, is the world’s fastest reacting suspension, controlling body motions to a precise degree.

The DTS features OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation, a fully integrated GPS navigation system from OnStar.
Safety
For 2008, DTS includes two new optional safety systems designed to support driver vision and crash avoidance: Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Zone Alert systems. The lane departure system uses a camera located between the inside rearview mirror and the windshield to detect lane markings on the road and alert drivers when they inadvertently stray from the lane. Side Blind Zone Alert uses radar sensors behind the rear fascia on both sides of the vehicle that signal an audible and visual alert if objects are detected in ‘blind zones.’ When Lane Departure Warning System is engaged, a driver traveling at 35 mph or more who crosses a detected lane marking without signaling is alerted in two ways: The system’s telltale light flashes amber, and an alerting sound of three beeps is played. The system is designed to alert drivers so they can take appropriate action to move the vehicle back into the lane.
A distinguishing feature of Cadillac’s lane departure system over competitive systems is a telltale light wîth the ‘LDW’ symbol that indicates whether the system is ready to assist the driver. If the light is green, the system is able to detect lane markings and provide alerts. If the light is off, it will not. To avoid nuisance alerts, the system is deigned to not provide an alert if the turn signal is on or if the driver makes a sharp maneuver. Alternating radar beams in GM’s Side Blind Zone Alert System ‘sweep’ adjacent areas, covering a zone of about one lane over from both sides of the vehicle, or 11 feet (3.5 m).
Both the LDW and SBZA systems can be turned on and off by the driver.
Designed and engineered wîth occupant safety and protection in mind, the DTS reinforces Cadillac’s long-standing reputation for safe occupant environments in premium vehicles. The DTS is equipped wîth a host of safety and security features, beginning wîth its body frame integral (BFI) construction; strategically engineered crumple zones in front and rear; and comprehensive use of high-strength steel. The vehicle’s crashworthiness is enhanced wîth structural foam and nylon structural inserts strategically placed in areas of the vehicle’s structure. The DTS has six standard air bags, including an industry-first dual depth front passenger air bag. The GM co-patented technology deploys either a small or large air bag depending upon crash severity, seat belt usage and seat position. The DTS is manufactured at GM’s award-winning Detroit Hamtramck assembly facility. In addition to its availability in the Ú.S. and Canada, the DTS is exported for sale in Mexico, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait .
2008 Cadillac CTS
Aggressive and elegant, expressive and sophisticated, the 2008 Cadillac CTS exudes a dramatic design presence. This all-new luxury sedan not only pushes Cadillac’s acclaimed design theme higher, it aims to redraw the boundaries of the normally conservative luxury sedan category. Inside and out, the 2008 CTS contradicts many traditional design conventions. CTS’ design expresses its serious performance intent, yet also is more elegant and luxurious. It’s a sedan in the heart of the luxury market, yet reaches for the charisma of a sports car. CTS is thoroughly new and contemporary, even while it evokes the grandeur of classic Cadillac cars.
Since the inception of the first-generation car in 2002, CTS is about trend-setting design. The edgy form of the CTS initially created controversy. But from the moment it hit the market, its design also attracted lots of buyers, wîth design often noted as a top reason for purchase. The all-new 2008 edition extends that edgy and contemporary character, wîth an injection of elegance.
On the exterior, there’s no mistaking the five-passenger sedan’s stronger stance, thanks to a two-inch wider track. Additionally, the overall shape of the CTS features a faster profile wîth more rake, coupled wîth surfaces that add elegance and grace. Borrowing from Cadillac’s legendary heritage, design cues include vertically shaped headlights and taillamps, signature light emitting diode (LED) exterior lighting, horizontal spline lines and its dihedral-shaped hood, all highlighted wîth many bright and jeweled accents.
Just as definitive of CTS’ evolution in design is the dramatically new interior. Like the exterior, it expresses luxury and performance themes wîth appointments that are both purposeful and elegant. Advances in surface development, technology, materials and construction combine to make the CTS cabin a compelling blend of technical sophistication, precise tailoring and luxurious character.
Price: $33,675 – 35,975.
Invoice: $31,485 – 33,635.
Interior
The 2008 CTS represents a new design theme for Cadillac interiors, emphasizing technical precision wîth elegant, hand-crafted details. Dramatically different from the original, the interior design is decidedly more upscale, wîth added ornamentation, luxury and attention to detail. Strict attention to packaging, premium materials, surface development and comfort combine to meet the discriminating tastes of luxury performance sedan buyers.
Úpper instrument panel and door trim surfaces are hand-cut, sewn and wrapped by expert craftsmen. Analog instrumentation that is tightly framed wîth a compact hood tri-tubular, chromed cluster, is defined by bright accents. An integrated center stack design, wîth either a satin metallic finish or genuine Sapele wood, blends into the lower instrument panel that sweeps forward and away of front-seat occupants. The hand-assembled center console leads seamlessly into the center stack, providing a sportier ‘cockpit’ feel for the driver and passenger without compromising space.
Heated and ventilated seats incorporate new ‘thin-seat’ technology for maximum occupant comfort and enhanced rear-seat leg, knee and foot room. A signature V-shaped medallion appears as a decorative touch on the backs of the front seats. French stitching is used throughout the interior, including the upper instrument panel, door inserts, seats and the shifter boot. Clean, white ambient light emitting diode (LED) soft backlighting is positioned in the door pulls, foot wells and recessed between the upper and lower instrument panels.
The result is a dramatic effect similar to recessed lighting used in contemporary homes. The leather-wrapped §teering wheel includes standard integrated controls for cruise and audio system. Inside and out, the 2008 CTS exemplifies an evolution of Cadillac design that achieves a remarkable combination of luxury, technology and performance in a sedan aimed at creating the desire and head-turning quotient normally reserved for sports cars.
Exterior
Coupled wîth a new overall shape, the most evolutionary dimension of the 2008 CTS comes in the form of a two-inch wider track as a result of the addition of the new, optional all-wheel-drive configuration. The wider stance gives the new model a more planted, capable and well-grounded appearance that’s exemplified by much tighter tire-to-fender relationships. The wider stance also enables more tumblehome – the vehicle sides are sculpted inward – delivering an appearance of rear-wheel-drive performance wîth a lower roof line, without compromising headroom or a roomy interior.
Additionally, a wider, tapering sail panel, lower, more sculpted hood, smoother wheel housing lips and a tighter wheel-to-body relationship help communicate the CTS’ agility as well as its sophistication and substance. Seven-spoke, 17-inch wheels or available nine-spoke, 18-inch wheels surround larger high-performance brake calipers and rotors. Both painted and machined finishes are available for the standard 17-inch wheels. The larger, 18-inch wheels are available in a premium multicoat finish or a high-polish finish.
Inspired by Cadillac’s landmark Sixteen concept car, the CTS front appearance is immediately recognizable, yet also is new. The large, chrome dual-textured grille is significantly more vertical in shape, and is both aggressive and intricate. A large center-positioned wreath and crest add to the three-dimensional face. The front fascia is balanced wîth vertically stacked headlamps wîth bright bezels stacked in a staircase-like array. The lower air intake is flanked on both sides wîth fog lamps and brake duct intakes. Side air extractors located forward of the front doors are a modern homage to Cadillac’s grand heritage. Additional bright details include chrome molding surrounding the side windows, and three-inch chromed exhaust outlets.
Even on the rear of the car, where many sedans are ordinary, Cadillac designers injected charisma. The vertical taillamps are a Cadillac trademark. The roofline and rear backlight have a coupe-like profile. At the centerline, the decklid carries the angular and directional theme of the front. Dimensionally, the 2008 CTS is 191.6 inches (4766 mm) long, 72.5 inches (1841 mm) wide and 58 inches (1472 mm) in height. Wheelbase is 113.4 inches (2880 mm) wîth a front/rear track of 61.8 / 62.0 inches (1575 / 1585 mm).
