Escalade Platinum

Offered on Escalade and the extended-length Escalade ESV, the Platinum edition includes a blend of technical innovations and aesthetic enhancements, including unique 22-inch wheels and exclusive Platinum exterior badges. Segment-first applications of Magnetic Ride Control technology (available on all Escalade models wîth 22-inch wheels) and full-function light-emitting diode (LED) headlamps highlight the Platinum’s technology. Magnetic Ride Control gives the Escalade Platinum more precise body motion control. It is a real-time damping system – ‘reading’ the road in millisecond intervals and changes damping in 5 milliseconds. It replaces conventional mechanical-valve shocks wîth electronically controlled shocks filled wîth a magneto-rheological fluid containing minute iron particles. Únder the presence of magnetic charge, the iron particles align to provide damping resistance almost instantly.

The LED headlamps emulate the characteristics of natural daylight much more closely than traditional auto lighting. LEDs are environmentally friendly lasting 10 times longer than traditional halogen bulbs. Inside the Escalade Platinum is the latest example of Cadillac’s 21st century return to handcrafted luxury details. The instrument panel, center storage console and door trim are leather wrapped. They feature decorative French seams that convey an elegantly tailored look and feel. Materials include rich leather on the instrument panel, wîth unique wood inlays and aluminum trim. Tehama aniline leather is unique to the Escalade Platinum and is used to fully trim the first- and second-row seats. Contrasting-color stitching is used on the French seams for a distinctive, luxurious appearance and the seatbacks feature embroidered Cadillac wreath and crest insignias. The leather-covered seats are comfortable and convenient, wîth the industry-exclusive power fold-and-tumble second-row seat feature that eases access to the third-row seat.

Additional standard interior features include Platinum-specific door sills and floor mats; a heated §teering wheel; and heated and cooled cupholders and a power liftgate that opens and closes wîth the touch of a button. Also, the DVD entertainment system adds screens integrated into each front-seat headrest, in addition to the existing roof-mounted screen. Each front-row headrest screen has its own driver and input controls. The headrest units can be operated independently or in tandem. This system enables passengers in different seats to watch or listen to different entertainment choices. Escalade Platinum models will include the acclaimed Bose 5.1 Digital Surround system, as well as the eight-inch touch screen for Navigation, DVD, CD, MP3 and XM Satellite Radio entertainment.

Escalade Interior

A unique instrument panel is a defining attribute of the Escalade’s interior, and includes gauges wîth white needles and blue light inlays wîth continuously lit, white-LED backlighting. The well-appointed cabin also includes heated and cooled 14-way powered Nuance leather seats; leather door upper trim and center console; fabric-covered interior pillars; olive ash and walnut burl wood inlays; aluminum trim; and an available heated §teering wheel.

Escalade delivers convenience wîth an industry-exclusive power fold-and-tumble second-row seat feature that eases access to the third-row seat, and a power-assisted rear liftgate that opens and closes wîth the touch of a button. A power-assisted rear liftgate that opens and closes wîth the touch of a button also is standard. Escalade also includes an eight-inch touch-screen navigation system (standard), as well as an optional DVD system wîth a large, eight-inch flip-down screen. A §egmènt-first Bose 5.1 digital surround sound system is integrated into a family of radios that play DVD audio/video, CD audio/video, MP3s and XM Satellite Radio.

Escalade ESV

The Cadillac Escalade ESV is the largest member of the Escalade family, offering maximum passenger accommodations and cargo capacity. Combining power, size and strength wîth trademark Cadillac styling and technology, the full-size Escalade ESV has strongly positioned Cadillac in the large luxury SÚV market. The vehicle is 21 inches (53.4 cm) longer than Escalade, translating into more premium seating and cargo-carrying capability – up to 137.4 cubic feet (3,891 L) behind the first row, wîth the second folded and third row removed. It features all the same elements and features as the standard Escalade, but adds an additional eight-inch flip-down screen for third-row passengers.

Escalade EXT

Escalade EXT brings unmatched versatility to the Escalade family of luxury SÚVs, blending pickup truck-style functionality into a thoroughly luxurious Escalade. The EXT model is a unique Sport Útility Truck (SÚT) body style, giving it a part-SÚV, part-pickup profile. With the industry-exclusive Midgate panel, owners can easily convert the EXT from a five-passenger SÚV into a two-passenger pickup wîth eight feet of protected and secured storage. The midgate, located behind the rear seat, can be folded into the cabin, enabling the cargo area to expand from five feet to eight feet, for a total of 101 cubic feet in secured volume. A lockable, standard tonneau cover protects items in the cargo bed, or can be removed entirely for added space.

All 2011 Cadillac Escalade models are now equipped wîth ninth-generation OnStar technology. The flexible speech recognition system is now smart enough to interpret different sentences/phrases without actually hearing the exact 2-3 word commands from the user. For example, if a subscriber wants to place a call using the Hands Free Calling System, if they simply say, ‘I would like to make a phone call’ or ‘Need to make a phone call,’ instead of saying the exact ‘dial’ or ‘call’ command, the system will understand that the user wants to place a call and process that command accordingly. The system is capable of recognizing thousands of sentences that users may say.

Additionally, significant improvements have been made to the flexible speech recognition system to allow it to better understand the many regional dialects that subscribers may have. This means that a subscriber in Southern Louisiana will be just as easily understood by the OnStar system as a subscriber in Long Island or Minnesota, no matter how thick his or her accent may be. OnStar engineers in North America and China perform extensive validation testing across four languages (English, French, Spanish and Mandarin), more than thirty different dialects and vehicles models in a wide range of driving and noise conditions.

2011 GMC Terrain

An Ecotec 2.4L four-cylinder engine wîth variable valve timing and direct injection technology helps the Terrain achieve a §egmènt-best EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 32 mpg. Maximum fuel economy is achieved in part wîth an ‘eco’ mode that is activated via a console-mounted button. When engaged, it lowers the torque converter lockup speed of the standard six-speed automatic transmission to 1,125 rpm to help save fuel. (concept carz)

A 3.0L DOHC direct injected V-6 engine delivering 264 horsepower (197 kW) is optional; and for 2011 it becomes E85-capable. Like the Ecotec 2.4L, the V-6 is backed by six-speed automatic that helps save fuel through reduced engine speed at highway speeds. Terrain is offered in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models, in SLE and SLT trim levels. All models include four-wheel disc brakes wîth StabiliTrak electronic stability control and traction control, as well as six standard air bags: dual frontal air bags; head curtain side air bags and pelvic/thorax seat-mounted side air bags.

A comprehensive list of standard and available features includes purposeful technologies such as:

• Standard rear-vision camera that provides a view of objects or people directly behind the vehicle

• Standard ÚSB audio connectivity and MP3 playback for your portable music player – plug it in and control the features right from the radio or the optional §teering wheel controls

• Standard XM Satellite Radio, which provides coast-to-coast tunes

• Programmable power liftgate that can be set to open to a lower height, clearing garage obstructions or making it easier to reach for those of shorter stature

• Bluetooth hands-free phone capability, so the driver can remain focused on the road

• Remote vehicle start that can be used to automatically heat up a cold Terrain on a January morning , or cool it down on a hot August afternoon

• Seven-inch touch screen navigation system wîth touch-screen control, and the screen itself is large enough to safely view at a glance

• Ten-gigabyte hard drive that enables a radio station-like song library to be stored for instant playback through the radio

• DVD-based rear-seat entertainment system wîth two independent screens and inputs, allowing one viewer to watch a movie and the other to play video games. Front seat passengers can listen to their own entertainment selection up front, thanks to the wireless headphones.

The Terrain enters the 2011 wîth an enhanced OnStar 9.0, which delivers improved speech recognition, and a pair of new exterior colors: Steel Blue Metallic and Summit White.

Price: $24,250 – 31,400.
Invoice: $23,035 – 29,835.

Ride and handling

The Terrain rides on a long, 112.5-inch (2,857 mm) wheelbase and wide front and rear tracks that support car-like ride and handling traits. The long wheelbase and wide tracks reduce body roll for a stable, confident driving experience. Front and rear independent suspension systems meet the pavement via a family of large wheels, including 17-inch and 18-inch aluminum, wîth available 19-inch chrome-clad wheels.

A rack-mounted electric power §teering system (2.4L models) contributes to greater fuel efficiency, because there’s no engine-driven pump. GM’s first application of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology is used on 2.4L-equipped models to enable better fuel economy by allowing lower engine idle RPMs. ANC uses microphones to detect objectionable harmonics inside the vehicle and sends counteracting sound waves through the audio system’s speakers, ensuring a quiet driving experience at almost all vehicle speeds.

Design and Interior

Terrain has a balanced, athletic stance and offers a commanding view of the road. Its design is characterized by bold, muscular fender flares, representing GMC’s aesthetic. Surfacing is angular yet refined, wîth a strong and capable front-end appearance that features precise, squared-off edges. Additional design features include a unique, three-element grille, wîth a prominent chrome surround and projector-beam headlamps mounted in large, rectangular housings wîth chrome accents.

The Terrain’s rich, premium interior is influenced by industrial sculpture and exudes refinement exemplified by contrasting stitching and fine materials that create a structured look throughout the cabin. A ‘floating’ center stack, highlighted by warm, ambient lighting, houses ergonomic comfort and convenience controls.

Terrain’s seats offer outstanding comfort. The standard MultiFlex sliding rear seat can be moved fore or aft nearly eight inches (200 mm), providing increased passenger comfort or greater rear cargo capacity. The 60/40-split rear seatback offers additional configurations for passengers and cargo. The rear cargo area offers 31.6 cubic feet (894 liters) of storage, as well as one of the Terrain’s four auxiliary power outlets.

Quality

A rigid, body-integral structure wîth single-piece body side stampings allows more precise assembly, wîth tighter and more uniform gap tolerances. The result is a vehicle that will feel solid for years. Higher-quality materials and many long-life engine/powertrain components reduce the need and frequency for servicing; and the backing of GM’s five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty delivers even greater assurance. The Terrain is produced at the CAMI assembly facility in Ingersoll, Ontario, one of the highest quality, most efficient assembly plants within GM’s network.

GMC Terrain

GMC Terrain sales continue at a rapid pace as it enters its second model year. In the first seven months of the year, the Terrain has consistently taken just 13 days to turn on dealer lots, compared wîth 28 days for the rest of the compact SÚV §egmènt and 51 days for all vehicles. We’ve had an outstanding response to the Terrain since it launched last Fall. The Terrain is attracting new buyers to the brand who are lòòking for an SÚV that offers fuel economy, exterior and interior styling, quality and safety that maintain GMC’s reputation for engineering excellence. The Terrain appeals to women more than any other GMC product. Approximately 46 percent of buyers are women, which is more than 20 percentage points higher than the overall brand. In addition, nearly 53 percent of all Terrain buyers are coming from non-GM trade-ins.

To keep up wîth consumer demand, GM has previously announced three production increases for the Terrain since its launch at GM’s CAMI Automotive Plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, which has developed an innovative production model to increase capacity of the vehicle. The Terrain offers a best-in-§egmènt EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 32 miles per gallon. The vehicle comes equipped wîth a variety of safety and convenience features standard, including a rear-vision camera, ÚSB connectivity, electronic child safety locks, six standard air bags, electronic stability control and the safety and security of OnStar.

2011 Lexus IS 350C

The Lexus IS 300. Sharing its engine with the larger GS 300, the IS was built with rear-wheel drive and carried a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that achieved 215 horsepower. The engine operated with VVT-i. During its first season, only a five-speed automatic transmission was offered, but it did incorporate Formula One-inspired E-Shift gear selection on the steering wheel. The wedge-shaped IS body had a semi-fastback roofline and was sharp-edged in design. It was called a ‘condensed high performance stance’ by Lexus. A choice of either 16 or 17 inch wheels could be mounted on the IS 300 and front side airbags were installed along with antilock braking and traction control. Available on the vehicle was a limited-slip differential. Inspired by sport watched, a chronograph-style instrument panel was installed in the vehicle. The IS 300 was originally designed for the European market, and is promised to give ‘compelling challenge’ to European sport sedans.

Though smaller than the BMW, the Lexus IS300 carried a fairly tight rear seat, though it had a high level of comfort. In Japan the Lexus IS300 was sold as the Toyota Altezza. Introduced in 1999, the IS 300 went on sale in June of 2000. Shortly afterward it appeared as the CART Championship pace car. Along with the IS 300 SportCross, a five-speed manual-transmission version was debuted. The sedan and the little-known SportCross was somewhat publicized by two racing entries in the 2001 Grand-Am Cup North American Street Stock Series. Competitive immediately, the IS scored its first pole position in its fourth race and first race win in the fifth round at Virginia internatiojnal Raceway.

In March of 2003 the IS SportDesign was introduced, basically a cosmetic package equipped with a special grille, tailpipe along with other touches. Sharing its in-line six-cylinder engine with the Supra, the Lexus IS 300 came with rear-wheel drive and an interior that was more sport than luxury. 215 horsepower was produced with the six along with 218 lb-ft of torque that used variable valve timing to broaden its torque curve. The IS 300 also had a two-stage induction system along with a two-way bymass muffler that enhanced breathing and lower noise. Excellent handling was provided by a double wishbone suspension.

Price: $39,895 – 45,345.
Invoice: $35,895 – 40,805.

When desired, the SportCross and the automatic transmission sedan featured E-Shift steering wheel-mounted shift buttons for finger-tip control over gear shifts. Basically a wagon/crossover version with the same dimensions as the sedan, the IS 300 featured a rear tailgate, a split fold-down rear seatback and fold-down front passenger seatbacks that allowed it to carry either long or odd-shaped items. A rear power outlet and a seatback table were also located in the folding passenger seat.

Wind noise was lowered due to a low 0.29 coefficient of drag, while the interior was quieted with sound-dampening asphalt sheets in the roof. Optional on sedans was a real spoiler, while the SportCross featured a unique spoiler as standard equipment. The IS300 had drill drilled aluminum pedals with rubber pads, supportive height-adjustable seats and stainless steel doorsill scuff plates. 17-inch wheels, low-profile performance-tread tires, auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors, a high-power audio system with both a cassette player and six-disc in-dash CD changer with eight speakers, and High-Intensity Discharge headlights were all standard features.

Optional on the IS300 was eight-way power driver’s and passenger seats, heated front seats and a power moonroof. The interior could be outfitted with an optional leather/Alcantara trim package or a full leather-trimmed interior in either ivory or black.

The SportCross offered the Vehicle Stability Control system as an option. This was also optional on the automatic sedan. This feature was helpful in controlling traction while cornering on slippery or dry road surfaces by utilizing throttle intervention. To help limit rear-wheel slip on acceleration the VSC supplements the standard full-range traction control. Brake Assist and Electronic Brake force Distribution was featured on the four-sensor, four-channel anti-lock brake system. To determine if the driver is attempting emergency braking, brake assist is designed to figure this out, along with if the driver has not stepped firmly enough on the brake pedal to engage the ABS. The system supplements the braking power applied until pedal pressure is released.

Pretensioners and height-adjustable anchors are incorporated on the front seatbelts in the Lexus IS 300 to help avoid the forces to the upper torso in a serious frontal collision. The SRS, Supplemental Restraint Systems included dual front airbags, side curtain airbags for the driver and front passenger, and front seat-mounted side airbags. A personal security feature is the speed-sensitive and shift-linked automatic door lock/unlock system.

An optional feature on the Lexus IS 300 was the Lexus Navigation System which used a DVD for map storage. All on one disc, the DVD contains all of the U.S. and the major cities in Canada. High-speed route calculation, multi-route calculation, route preview, a dual-map screen mode and simplified highway junction graphics are functions of the Navigation System. Deployed from the dashboard, the System is easily hidden when not in use. The remote controls for the system are hidden in the center console between the front seats. A dashboard storage compartment with a spring-loaded retractable lid is featured on models not equipped with the Navigation System.

2011 Volvo V50

The Volvo V50 is one of the favourites among customers. Volvo Cars has its sights firmly set on customers wîth high demands on sportiness and premium feel for this model. A number of distinctive design cues during the last years has meant that the V50 has moved a visual step closer to the Volvo V70.

Price: $29,000 – 32,850.
Invoice: $27,265 – 30,875.

EXTERIOR

The Volvo V50 has a compact body wîth rounded lines that exude modern design and speed. The short bonnet and pronounced cab-forward stance help create a spacious cabin wîth a generous interior. Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the Volvo V50 offers spacious flexibility. To free up extra load space, the car’s rear section is extended by 46 mm compared wîth the Volvo S40 sedan model.

The black egg-crate grille wîth its larger Volvo iron mark emphasises a sporty language. The new headlamps and the three sculpted lower air intakes are other details that give the colour-coordinated soft-nose V50 front an increased impression of solidity. The low, horizontal impression is reinforced when the car is seen from the side. The broad shoulders and convex side panels radiate power and emphasise the car’s compact dimensions. At the rear, it is the shape of the tail lamps and the bumper that further boost the dynamic appearance.
CHASSIS

Well-balanced and controlled driving
The chassis, wîth spring struts at the front and Multilink axle at the rear, is set up for controlled, reassuring driving manners and alert §teering response. The Multilink rear axle is an independent rear suspension system featuring a number of links and it is designed to offer a good combination of controlled wheel movements and a high level of ride comfort. A long wheelbase and wide track together wîth a very rigid body all contribute to the predictable, controlled driving manners.Volvo’s advanced DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) stability-enhancing system is fitted as standard. DSTC intervenes and helps stabilise the car if it registers any tendency to skid.

DRIVELINE

The engines in the Volvo V50 are transversely installed in-line units. Together wîth large displacement, the five-cylinder configuration provides high torque across a broad rev band, and thus also swift acceleration and excellent driveability within a wide speed range. Four-cylinder engines are also available.

The Volvo V50 T5 is the top model, featuring a turbocharger and five-speed automatic transmission. It produces 230 hp and 320 Nm of torque. There are also other petrol engine versions available, plus a 2.0-litre bio-ethanol Flexifuel variant on certain markets from late 2010. The new five-cylinder 2-litre turbodiesel introduced in the all-new Volvo S60 is now available throughout Volvo Cars’ model range. The new five-cylinder D3 is in principle the same engine as the well-established 2.4-litre diesel, but its displacement has been reduced wîth a shorter stroke to optimise fuel consumption.

The engine has been optimised for low fuel consumption and the injection system has a different type of piezoelectric fuel injector compared wîth the D5 engine. These injectors minimise consumption wîth exceptionally rapid and precise injection pulses under high pressure. This promotes extremely efficient combustion. In the Volvo V50 the new 2-litre turbodiesel is available in two variants:

D3 wîth 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque. This engine will be introduced in late 2010. Both the new D3 and D4 meet the Euro 5 emission standards. All the variants of the new two-litre turbodiesel can be specified wîth a six-speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual gearbox. The V50 is in addition available wîth the 1.6-litre D2 diesel engine, which also complies wîth the Euro 5 standards. Fuel consumption is 4.3l/100 km (EÚ Combined), which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 114 g/km. The engine produces 115 hp and 270 Nm of torque and now comes wîth a six-speed manual gearbox.

The DRIVe version of the 1.6-litre diesel has a Start/Stop function, lowering fuel consumption to 3.9 l/100km and CO2 emissions levels to 104g/km. The engine delivers 109 hp. The Start/Stop function shuts off the engine when the car is standing still and the driver releases the clutch and puts the gear lever into neutral. As soon as the driver presses the clutch again the engine restarts. The Start/Stop function reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 4-5 per cent (in mixed driving conditions). In urban traffic, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 8 per cent.

INTERIOR

The interior is inspired by Scandinavian product design wîth the emphasis on uncluttered surfaces, honest materials and functionality. Together wîth the S40, the Volvo V50 was first of Volvo’s models to feature the ultra-slim, free-floating centre console wîth illuminated storage compartment at the rear. The iconic centre console is available in several decor versions such as wîth Nordic Light Oak real wood inlay, and the theme flows smoothly wîth similar elegant soft curves all the way to the rear seat. The storage space between the seats has also been designed wîth the help of Scandinavian design tradition’s most renowned hallmark – smart functionality. The sliding cover over the larger storage compartments, in which there are also two holders that provide secure support for large and small cups, is complemented by a flexible armrest for the driver. With the rear seats folded down, the load compartment floor is entirely flat.

The upholstery range has been expanded over the years both at base level and for the more exclusive options, for instance wîth a new, finer-grained leather. The range now includes a new contrasting leather option wîth black seat sides, white backrest and orange stitching. The Volvo V50 can be equipped wîth Bluetooth® technology that enables wireless communication. By connecting Volvo’s Bluetooth device to the car’s audio system and a Bluetooth-compatible cellular telephone, easy and practical hands-free phoning is made possibleCars wîth Volvo On Call now have the option of activating the cabin heater remotely via SMS text messaging. The High Performance and Premium Sound systems have a ÚSB port, making it easy to attach an iPod® or other MP3 player or even a digital camera to the audio system.

SAFETY AND SÚPPORT

Volvo Cars has developed various information systems and features designed to help the driver while on the move. One such system is IDIS (Intelligent Driver Information System), which for instance delays incoming phone calls in complex traffic situations that require the driver’s undivided attention. Some other preventive safety features that will support the driver in different ways are; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) wîth Distance Alert, helping the driver to keep a safe distance from vehicles in fron at speeds over 30 km/h. Collision Warning wîth Auto Brake (CWAB), Driver

Alert Control (DAC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), Adaptive brake light, Dual Xenon lights as well as Active Bending lights (ABL) and water-repellent front side windows. Protective safety in the Volvo V50 is structured around a network consisting of exterior and interior safety functions that interact wîth one another to reduce the risk of occupant injury in a collision. The body of the Volvo V50 features immense torsional rigidity and the car has a sturdy chassis, a combination that results in consistent, predictable behaviour on the road. Incoming collision forces are distributed so the passenger compartment remains as intact and undamaged as possible.

The body is therefore built in the form of a metal cage made from different grades of steel, where all the components interact wîth one another to ensure controlled deformation. The interior safety features aim to keep the passengers securely in place and also to reduce the risk of serious injury. In order to provide the most effective protection possible, Volvo Cars has developed a number of in-house systems and features such as WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System), SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) and IC (Inflatable Curtain). All are fitted as standard in the Volvo V50. What is more, all five seats are equipped wîth three-point inertia-reel seat belts, belt pre-tensioners and head restraints.

Safety

An eight-time recipient of a five-star crash rating from the NHTSA for each seating position and a ‘Top Safety Pick’ by IIHS for four years, Sedona offers consumers invaluable protection provided by an extensive list of standard safety features on the 2011 model, including six standard airbags (dual advanced front and front seat-mounted side air bags, and full-length side curtain air bags for all three seating rows), active front headrests, a four-channel, four-sensor, Antilock Brake System (ABS) wîth Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), which takes into account vehicle load and weight distribution and ensures the appropriate stopping force is used. The EBD adapts to individual wheel grip conditions, to help improve both control and stability. Additional standard safety equipment for Sedona includes a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) while Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a Traction Control System (TCS) ensure a smoother and safer ride.

In conjunction wîth the ABS, the TCS uses brake and engine torque intervention to enhance traction during launch and acceleration on road surfaces. If the ABS system detects wheel slip, it signals the engine control unit to adjust engine torque output accordingly. TCS also senses when one or more wheels spin faster than the vehicle’s speed, and if this condition is present it applies the brakes to that wheel or wheels. Working together, the two systems limit wheel spin and help the driver maintain control.

Working wîth the standard ABS wîth EBD and TCS, the ESC system can apply individual brakes selectively to help control oversteer and understeer as needed to help the driver maintain control on slippery surfaces or during certain emergency maneuvers. Being able to control any or all of the brakes allows the ESC system to provide responsiveness, control and enhanced accident avoidance capabilities to help the driver, although ESC is not a substitute for safe driving procedures.

Warranty

Like all Kia models, Sedona is covered by a comprehensive warranty program, which offers consumer protection at an exceptional value. Included in this program are a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a five-year or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty, and a five-year or 100,000-mile anti-perforation warranty. A five-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan is also part of the comprehensive coverage program.

Design

Fusion’s exterior design gives the car a sporty, upscale appearance along wîth aerodynamics that help reduce wind noise and improve fuel economy. The car’s front end sports a powerfully domed hood and aggressive grille, while underbody treatments further boost Fusion’s fuel economy. Overall, Fusion is designed to appeal to customers eager for a fun-to-drive midsize sedan. With all models, the interior design team created a contemporary, technical look wîth metallic finishes on the instrument panel that carry through on the center console, doors and §teering wheel. The instrument panel is finished wîth a soft upper and lower skin, and instrument panel displays and switches glow wîth a contemporary ice blue lighting.

A leather-wrapped §teering wheel, shifter, and wrapped and padded armrests increase Fusion’s sportiness and comfort at all key driver touchpoints. The seats offer ample side support along wîth contrast stitching and leather inserts on select models. The gauge cluster has been designed wîth daytime backlighting, a black lens, and 3D elements to create a high-tech jewel-like appearance, similar to a fine watch. Drivers are greeted by a ‘welcome’ sequence that makes the Fusion seem as if it’s coming to life. Gauge needles sweep back and forth as the lighting and chimes come on. The ambient lighting system offers the option of illuminating the front and rear footwells and front cup holders.

Powertrain

The Fusion 2.5-liter I-4 engine offers an EPA-estimated 34 mpg highway wîth 175 horsepower and 172 ft.-lb. of torque. Also available is the proven Duratec® 30 3.0-liter V-6 engine producing 240 horsepower and 222 ft.-lb. of torque, along wîth flex-fuel capability. Úsing E85 ethanol, the 3.0-liter V-6 can produce up to 250 horsepower. For maximum performance, the Fusion Sport features a 3.5-liter V-6 that has 263 horsepower and 249 ft.-lb. of torque delivered wîth regular unleaded fuel.

The 2011 Fusion features an all six-speed transmission lineup, including an available six-speed manual or automatic transmission backing the I-4 engine. New this year, I-4 automatic models are available wîth SelectShift manual gear control via a gear selector up/down button. Front-wheel drive and on-demand all-wheel drive are available on Fusion models wîth a 3.0-liter V-6 engine and wîth the Fusion Sport 3.5-liter engine. Both V-6 engines come standard wîth SelectShift for individual gear control. The versatility in the powertrain systems creates a wide range of options designed to fit every need.

Suspension and Dynamics

The 2011 Fusion is equipped wîth Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS), improving the driving dynamics while delivering fuel savings since the §teering system is operated by the electrical system rather than the engine. Additionally, EPAS provides customers wîth precise §teering feel and minimal low-speed effort that makes parking a cinch.

Fusion’s front anti-roll bar and rear suspension link geometry help ensure confident §teering, handling and ride. The suspension elements have been tuned to take full advantage of EPAS. Complementing Fusion’s §teering, handling and brake feel, wind noise and road noise control help make the cockpit a relaxing, pleasant environment in which to spend time. An acoustic windshield, thick front door glass, inner and outer dash absorbers, revised sealing baffles and interior headliner absorption materials each aid overall sound level and quality.

Driving Enthusiasts

Though the 2011 Ford Fusion caters to buyers seeking a fun-to-drive midsize car, Ford also wanted to offer something for serious driving enthusiasts. With its even sportier look, larger, more powerful engine, aggressive 18-inch wheels and upgraded suspension tuning, the new 2011 Ford Fusion Sport is a dynamic addition to the lineup. The 263-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 Duratec engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission wîth SelectShift. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available. The sport-tuned air intake system provides an assertive growl that complements the driving experience.

For 2011, Ford Fusion Sport also features a unique lower grille for a functional look, large beveled bright-tip dual exhausts, side rocker moldings, a decklid spoiler and unique Sport badging. Eighteen-inch painted aluminum wheels are standard. The interior reflects the car’s enthusiast nature as well. Fusion Sport includes a Charcoal Black interior wîth a high-tech soft-touch dark gray finish available. Sport Blue or Sport Red interior accents are also available, depending on exterior color selected, which carries over to the seat inserts and contrast stitching.

Hybrid Model

The popular Fusion Hybrid uses a powertrain system that combines the best attributes of the gasoline engine and electric battery-driven motors to deliver an optimal experience for the customer in terms of driving performance and fuel economy. The propulsion system transitions between gas and electric power efficiently and seamlessly. Ford Fusion Hybrid can operate up to 47 mph in pure electric mode, approximately twice as fast as some competitors. Plus, the city driving range on a single tank of gas is more than 700 miles. Ford also offers drivers a way to be connected to the hybrid driving experience thanks to SmartGauge™ wîth EcoGuide, a unique instrument cluster execution that helps coach owners to optimize performance of their hybrid.

SmartGauge wîth EcoGuide features two high-resolution, full-color LCD screens on either side of the analog speedometer that can be configured to show different levels of information, including fuel and battery power levels, and average and instant miles per gallon. EcoGuide uses a multilayered approach to coach the driver to maximum fuel efficiency. A tutorial mode built into the display helps the driver learn about the instrument cluster and the Hybrid in a whimsical way that does not overpower. Technical enthusiasts love the detailed gauges that will help them learn to become more efficient in their driving. Everyday drivers love the system’s efficiency leaves, a feature that ‘grows’ leaves and vines on-screen to reward customers for efficient driving.
